Smart spindles

When it comes to spindles in machine tools, only little information or none at all is currently available in most cases about the current operating conditions and previous operating indicators of the spindle in the machine. The smart spindle is an integration of the spindle and the Sinamics drive unit and the Sinumerik controller. The MI24 (Sensor module integrated) transmits information from the spindle unit directly to the controller of the tool machine in digital form. This data provides information, for example, regarding the clamping times, number of clamping cycles, the motor and bearing temperature or the operating conditions in the form of a torque-speed-runtime diagram. Another contribution to the subject of industry 4.0 is the possibility of a data export, which allows for the evaluation and analysis of the saved spindle information. In addition, the digital Drive Clique connection facilitates the cable connection between the spindle and the control cabinet. Furthermore, the display of the spindle designation, the serial number and other information provides a kind of digital rating plate of the spindle. The technology leader in this area is Weiss Spindeltechnologie from Maroldsweisach in Germany. Upon request, the company manufactures the hydrostatic spindles, B-axis spindles and geared spindles also in a light construction version. The innovative company, which is part of the Innomotics GmbH, also has a reliable spindle repair service, which can also be carried out as an emergency repair (for example, following a spindle crash). The portfolio includes in addition: Milling spindles, lathe spindles, drilling spindles, grinding spindles and, for example, special drives.
